Film : Karaoke

Karaoke, Director/Producer by Chris Chong Chan Fui will be screened at the Directors' Fornight of the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Malaysian feature film in 14 years to be screened at one of the world's oldest, most influential and prestigious film festivals.

Initiated in 1969 by the French Director's Society, the Directors' Fortnight has long been a platform highlighting new talent in world cinema. Since its inception, the Directors' Fornight has discovered and held the first French screenings of debut films by George Lucas, Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee, among others.

'Karaoke' sets in a village estate of Malaysian oil plantation. BETIK returns to his village to help his mother with the karaoke a few years after the death of his father. During the day, he has also taken a job with his uncle making karaoke videos. KARAOKE is a story that takes you back home and lifts you off your feet.
